President, Eastern School of Music

Dongki Shin has been the President of the Eastern School since its founding in 2004.

He is also founder and President of the Seoul School of Music since 1998. In addition to his duties as President, Mr. Shin also finds time to conduct the school’s Youth Orchestra, and give private lessons as well.

Mr. Shin is the founder and principal conductor of the New York Symphony Orchestra since 1988. His other conducting experiences include work with the New York Christian Orchestra and 18 years of choral conducting, with performances of the Messiah, the Creation and other masterpieces of the choral repertoire.

Originally a trumpet player, Mr. Shin has been a member of the Seoul Symphony Orchestra and the MBC Orchestra. He has performed over 300 times for the Michael Brass Ensemble as its leader.

Mr. Shin studied trumpet with Melvyn Broiles (Metropolitan Opera Orchestra Principal), Vincent Penzarella (New York Philharmonic) and Douglas Hedwig (Metropolitan Opera Orchestra). He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the Seoul National University in Korea, a Masters Degree from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, and a Professional Studies Diploma from the Mannes College. He studied conducting with Vincent La Selva at the Juilliard School.
